Jill Thomas
"My work is inspired by elements of the fabric as much as by the subject matter itself. The colors, shapes and patterns become their own abstract compositions within the finished art."
Treating each piece of fabric as a brush stroke of paint on canvas, Jill's background in watercolor is the foundation for her artistry. With a B.F.A. in illustration from Syracuse University, she began her career creating murals, published children’s book illustrations, and art for clothing sold nation-wide. Although her current pieces are a vast departure from her earlier, more whimsical style, they are consistent in their emphasis on color and pattern. Using a fused fabric technique, she is able to offer a unique experience to the viewer; from intricate details in her textile arrangement, to the cohesive composition only observed from a distance.
