Let the Sun Shine in
April 2, 2025
Gallery One is pleased to announce the April show, “Let the Sun Shine In,” open to the public April 2 through May 6, 2025.
In the words of the immortal Beatles, “Little darling, It’s been a long, cold, lonely winter. Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here. Here comes the sun. Here comes the sun. And I say, “It’s alright.” This month the artists of Gallery One are, “Letting the Sun Shine In,” and we are saying, “It’s alright!” As artist Laura Hickman describes in her pastel, “Breaking Light,” “Cloudy, dreary days are never appreciated by me when on my travels, but when the sun breaks through and begins shining brightly, all is good!! True indeed! “Walking down a sandy path and seeing the sun about to set over the water is always a visual delight,” says artist Dale Sheldon of her inspiration for, “Early Evening Sunset,” in acrylic, and artist Marybeth Paterson, always experiences a thrill when, after a day of painting, she gets to see a beautiful sailboat catching the last sunlight of the day, she has illustrated this moment in her peaceful oil painting, “Afternoon at Pilotown Marina,” Contrast that with artist Ed Lewandowski’s vibrant morning scene in his oil painting, “Shine,” showing the bright sun illuminating a soybean field on a warm summer morning.
When we think of Spring, and the magic that the sun creates, one can’t help but experience the joy of the first blooms of the season peeking through the barren ground or even (this year) the snow. Those blossoms are both a visual joy, and an emotional lift. For artists Lesley McCaskill in her acrylic painting, “Awe Spring,” and Cindy Beyer, in her pastel, “Iridescence,“ spring beautifully changes the landscape with the colorful spring flowers and warmth of the weather.
My personal favorite painting, entitled “Breaking Through,” from artist Eileen Olson, “explores the connection between sunlight and its metaphorical significance as a force for transformation and revelation. It symbolizes the journey of overcoming darkness and embracing positivity and clarity. The bursts of white and lighter tones represent rays of sunlight piercing through shadowy areas, embodying illumination and the transformative power of light.” As the 5th Dimension put it in 1969, in their number one hit from the musical “Hair,” “Then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars. This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius. Harmony and understanding, Sympathy and trust abounding, no more falsehoods or derisions, Golden living dreams of visions, mystic crystal revelation and the minds true liberation…Let the sunshine in.” Let’s.
Why not let a little sunshine in this April and pay a visit to Gallery One?
