Artist’s Choice
January 8, 2025
Gallery One is pleased to announce the January show, “Artist Choice,” open to the public January 8, through March 4, 2025.
How do artists choose their subject matter, composition, color palette, lighting, and technique? These decisions shape the emotional tone and storytelling of the artwork and influence how viewers connect with and interpret the artwork so those choices are fundamental. This month, in “Artist’s Choice,” the artists of Gallery One are choosing their own “theme.” This encourages audiences to engage with the art in a way that resonates with their own insights while appreciating the unique perspectives offered by the artists themselves.
“I chose this image because it was created at one of my favorite locations for painting on site,” Cheryl Wisbrock shares about her choice, “Tidal Grasses,” in watercolor, “and because of the dreamlike quality of the hazy, early morning light on the marsh. This location is one of my favorite spots to experience in a variety of weather conditions. While I created this piece, the tide receded to reveal mud and young grass patches that had been buried underwater overnight.”
In artist Laura Hickman’s, pastel “Falling Trees,” Laura was drawn to the shapes created by the clouds. “This is one of my favorite pastels. Someone had drawn shapes with clouds in the sky above the banks of the canal between Lewes and Rehoboth.”
For artist Lesley McCaskill, “Winter Wonderland,” in acrylic, illustrates a unique atmospheric moment. “We do not get much snow down here. So, when it does snow the landscape becomes magical. The streets, trees, and lawns are transformed into clumpy white shapes that reflect the colors of the sky, and any peripheral colors, as their winter coat in this picture.”
And in artist Cindy Beyer’s, acrylic, “Carmen Jelly,” her choice reflects her ongoing experimentation with new techniques as a means to convey emotion and energy. “This is another fun painting with interference acrylic paint. When I was painting this jellyfish, it reminded me of a flamingo dancer, so I named her Carmen Jelly.”
We hope you’ll make a choice to stop in this month for some new insight into the art and artists of Gallery One. Gallery One is open daily 10am – 4pm.
