Mitzi Ash is a visual artist recognized for her large-scale, organic paintings that suggest the natural world. She also
creates beautiful silk scarves for several galleries in the area. Using luxurious white silk and color-rich dyes, Mitzi
invites us to marvel at the beauty of flowers, leaves, and trees through her use of shapes, form, and color,
capturing at once their simplicity and complexity. Mitzi takes a white silk scarf and stretches it tautly on a frame. She paints the dyes onto the scarf where it flows and moves like water. Other products are used to contain and enhance the design. The scarf is then steamed in a crab pot for an hour, washed and ironed. Silk painting is a multi-step process that can result in a vibrant, colorfast, beautiful piece of wearable art.
