Gallery One Bus Trip- Henri Rousseau: A Painter’s Secret @ The Barnes in Philadelphia on Thursday, February 19th!

Sign up now to join Gallery One’s bus trip to the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia to see a spectacular exhibit of Henri Rousseau’s work which will not be shown elsewhere in the United States. Barnes has the world’s largest collection of paintings by the French Post-impressionist Henri Rousseau, known for his lush, tigerhaunted tropical scenes. The Musee de l’ Orangerie in Paris owns the second largest collection, and the two museums have organized this critically acclaimed blockbuster exhibit, bringing all of their curious, extravagant Rousseau together for the very first time. Other paintings come from Musee d’Orsay, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Philadelphia Art Museum and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.  This exhibit will close February 22 and travel to the only other venue, the Musee de l’Orangerie in Paris.

The exhibition features 60 works from the untrained artist who overcame the ridicule of critics and continued to paint, eventually to rise from the mockery and become a very inspirational leader to artists that followed him.  His naïve, primitive style of painting with no sense of scale and disregard for conventional proportion and perspective defined his distinctive style and elevated him from an artistic outcast to an icon.

The Barnes Foundation was founded by Albert C. Barnes to promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of fine arts and horticulture. It houses a vast and significant collection of over 4,000 pieces, including Impressionist, Postimpressionist and early Modernist art.

The cost of the trip is $125.00, ( which includes museum entrance tickets.) due at the time of your reservation.  Space is limited.  Place your reservation by contacting Gallery One at (302) 537-5055, every day 10am – 4pm.
