Bold and Bright
December 3, 2019

Gallery One
32 Atlantic Avenue
Ocean View, Delaware 19970

In honor of the season, this month Gallery One is embracing all things Bold and Bright. Our artists and artwork sparkle during a month that includes three holidays, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa.

For some of the artists, bold and bright brought to mind the exuberance of summer flowers. Artist Joyce Condry sums it up this way, “Nothing brightens up our lives like flowers. They turn a yard into a showplace, add cheer to a room and put a smile on our faces. All this joy from only a few seeds!” That sounds like the Christmas spirit to me, and her painting, “Poppy Border” with its chain of bright red poppies is festive in red and green.

Laura Hickman’s pastel painting, “Summer Zinnias” speaks to the feeling we’re all striving to capture this time of year, “during the bleak winter months, it is always comforting to look upon a painting that captures the bright and bold summer colors of a verdant zinnia garden.”

Echoing this is artist Cheryl Wisbrock’s watercolor piece, “Double Whammy” in which she shares the gift of red flowers blooming mid-winter! The brilliant amaryllis in Cheryl’s painting was a holiday gift, that took a few weeks to grow. It bore beautiful cherry red blooms on a strong stalk, and within a few days a second stalk produced even more bold and bright flowers.

And speaking of gifts, in “Jacks” a bright and bold pastel painting by Jeanne Mueller, the artist treats us to a portrait of her favorite childhood game with all its shine and graphic primary colors.

For other artists bold and bright is a summer day spent enjoying the beach. In “Beach Picnic” an acrylic painting by artist Lesley McCaskill, the quiet interaction of an ordinary activity, picnicking by the beach, where memories begin for family and are enjoyed by the painter.

“Remembering Summer Days,” an oil painting by Marybeth Paterson, the artist embraces the fun and excitement of the holidays, “I love seeing some great vivid pictures of summers during the holidays, umbrellas are replaced with decorated trees and we have Santa beards and snowmen to remind us of those creamy, foamy waves, while folks close to the shore add treasures of the beach to holiday decorations. Warm summer days are never that far away!

“In Restless Waters” an acrylic painting by Dale Sheldon, she illustrates a heron boldly braving somewhat rough waves to search for his dinner. The monochromatic blues of the sky and the water are the backdrop for the darker hues of the heron, creating a bright but harmonic composition.”

For artist Eileen Olson, “Bold” means big brushes, huge sweeps of her arms and a bright palette filled with luscious colors. Beautiful is what she hopes the viewer sees. Eileen’s oil painting “Living Vortex” is a bright celebration of color and joy.

In Mary Bode Byrd‘s acrylic painting, “Drone,” The blue colors boldly fly off the page, as the many shades of blue intermix with the sky and the turbulent drone.

We hope you’ll come and enjoy this month’s show at Gallery One beginning December 3rd.

Gallery One is open 7 days a week, 10-5. The Gallery is always staffed by an artist.
